Flush face Garden Wall blocks – Queensland Transport

Australian Retaining Walls were recruited by the Queensland government to replace and upgrade this failing timber wall at their Queensland Water Police headquarters situated in Main Beach, Gold Coast Qld, a job that was made a lot more interesting when the spit caught fire and was evacuated! Fortunately for us the job fell just short of the evacuation area and work was not interrupted too badly.

If you know the suburb of Main Beach, Gold Coast Qld well, you may also know that it is largely built on sand and where we were working was no different. An excavator was deemed unnecessary as the footing could easily be dug out by hand and the wall was well inside the boundary lines so instead of cutting into the embankment which was thick with roots from the large hedge, Australian Retaining Walls would bring the new Flush face Garden Wall concrete link block retaining wall forward 300mm so as not to disturb the hedging and reducing preparation costs. Another way we were able to reduce the cost was by lowering the new Flush face Garden Wall blocks retainer to 1m. The old timber wall was 1.2m high which on further inspection it was found that there was no land behind the top sleeper which deemed it totally unnecessary.  Any walls that go over 1m in height need GCCC permission and engineer designs, which of course don’t come for free!
