Stone Masonry Retaining Wall Oxenford

The owner of this established property had old timber retaining walls that were failing. The existing walls were close to collapsing on the house. This would result in the neighbour’s wall on top also collapsing in on the lower home. After carefully considering all options a stone masonry wall was decided upon. Using local basalt rocks in the construction. 50mm weepholes were placed at the base of the wall at approx 1.2 metre centres. We secured the neighbouring top wall at the same time, during construction of the lower wall.

This wall not only looks great but will last maintenance free for hundreds of years. A wall like this does not cost much more than a timber wall initially. But over time this investment will prove to cost much less than replacing more timber walls in the future. If you worked out the cost over say 50 years, this wall will cost maybe 1 quarter of the cost of timber walls.

This wall will not need replacement again in the owner’s lifetime.
