Parkwood, Besser Block

Australian Retaining Walls were called to this Parkwood, Gold Coast Qld property to assist our clients with this rapidly subsiding area under the house. It’s largely an unseen area so the decision was made to construct a 200 series Besser block wall.

Two main challenges faced by Australian Retaining Walls was a) location where the wall was to be built and b) the access. Not the easiest of tasks when building down a substantial slope.

A small excavator was recruited, ramps were built and the skilled operator made it down to the rear of this Gold Coast property. Getting the excavated soil out was not an option so a garden was created further down the property.

Like all of Australian Retaining Walls 200 series Besser block wall projects, this wall was laid on a reinforced concrete footing then core filled with more concrete. It also has steel bars within the blocks for maximum strength. The 200 series Besser block wall is then backfilled with 20mm drainage gravel on top of a 65mm drainage pipe. We also install geotextile fabric to prevent soil particles mixing with the gravel. Finally the wall is capped for a tidy finish.
