Hand placed & dry stacked sandstone rocks Arundel

Australian Retaining walls were called to this Arundel, Gold Coast Qld property to advise our client on a suitable replacement for the ugly, failing timber wall that had been there since the house was built. After initially having another system in mind our clients mind was changed after seeing examples of our Hand placed & dry stacked sandstone rock walls. They were also pleasantly surprised that the price was roughly the same.

Limited access meant our micro excavator was the only option for the rear of this property where a large garden had to be dug out and the old timber retaining wall removed before any construction could begin. After all excavation was complete some rocks could be brought in. The largest rocks are selected first for the base. After all the base stones are in place the guys at Australian Retaining Walls split the rest of the Hand placed & dry stacked sandstone rocks into different piles. All the well-shaped flat stone will be kept aside for capping the wall and any stone with two good useable sides will be kept for cornerstones.

Once all the rear and side walls are complete Australian Retaining walls move out to the front to replace the old blue stone garden walls with Hand placed & dry stacked sandstone rocks as well. Although this is a mostly dry stacked wall we like to cement down the caps for extra stability and strength. This is the last part of the process apart from hosing down the rock to really bring out the beautiful locally sourced sandstone.
