Flush Face Garden Wall concrete blocks (cut side) & Hardwood sleepers with galvanised steel “H Beam” posts (fill side)

Australian Retaining Walls were called to this Upper Coomera, Gold Coast Qld property to assess the site for the best materials required for this cut and fill new build.

For the cut side of the site (the high side) Flush Face Garden, Wall blocks were chosen. As well as being durable they also look fantastic! For the fill side (the low side), a much narrower system would be required in order to maximise the land available so Hardwood sleepers with galvanised steel “H Beam” posts were deemed to be the best solution as they have a “footprint” of just 100mm

The shape of the house and the clients desire to have at least 1.5 meters of walkway around the whole building resulted in the need for several returns in the Flush Face Garden Wall blocks as you can see in the picture above. At the front of the property there would be gardens and extra parking so the walls could be further away from the fence (reducing excavation and disposal costs on this extremely hard and rocky ground). As you make your way down the side of the house to the rear the Flush Face Garden Wall blocks need to be closer to the fence to maximise the width of the path.

On the fill side a Hardwood sleeper wall with “H Beam” posts were found to be the most feasible at this site. The client’s wanted all the spare room available on their land as the garage was quite close to the boundary. This system is the thinnest system available to us on the market at only 100 mm total thickness it left plenty of room down the side for the proposed garage and path around the house. Also, the wall would be close to the neighbouring fence and below the ground level of our client’s property so it would hardly be seen, reducing the need for an aesthetically pleasing retaining wall.
