Australian Retaining Walls were called to this Ashmore, Gold Coast Qld property to assess this old timber wall. Although some of the timber sleepers were in reasonable condition, most of the posts had rotted near ground level and were hanging on for dear life. Standing 1.8 metres tall at the highest point, the fragility of the posts were a real safety concern for our clients-especially with young children wanting to play in the garden.
Our clients had recently completed renovations on the inside of the property and planned to live in this beautiful home for the foreseeable future. They decided to replace the timber wall with Flush Face Garden Wall concrete blocks to ensure this would be the last time they would ever have to worry about their outdoor area.
As this wall was over 1 metre tall in parts and the material was changing from timber to Flush Face Garden Wall concrete blocks, planning permission from the council was required and our engineer associate was engaged. With assistance from Australian Retaining Walls our clients were granted permission from the council to proceed with the new construction.
Working from the plans received from the engineer, construction of the Flush Face Garden Wall concrete blocks could get underway. The base blocks are laid on a concrete footing as usual and also stacked as usual. The main difference in the construction of a wall that is over 1 metre tall is the drainage system behind the wall. Instead of the normal 20mm gravel that we use, no-fines 20mm concrete reinforcing.
Another great looking wall completed with another satisfied customer for Australian Retaining Walls.
