Client Challenge
The residents of a residential property in Mudgeeraba, Gold Coast, needed to replace a failing treated pine sleeper wall. The site, nestled between two sloping blocks on different levels, posed significant logistical challenges for material and machinery access, complicating the construction process.
Our Solution
Australian Retaining Walls approached the task with strategic planning to navigate the tough access conditions. After removing fencing and trees to create an entry path, an excavator equipped with a 450mm auger dug 1.4-metre deep holes for the galvanised steel “H Beam” posts in the hard ground. A sling system was used to transport heavy materials through a lower property's driveway, and a concrete pump was essential due to the site's poor access and the need for large footings. Hardwood sleepers were then precisely cut and installed, with the base sleeper resting on concrete to prevent sinking.
Outcome
Despite the challenging access and tough ground conditions, the new hardwood sleeper retaining wall was successfully installed, providing the Mudgeeraba property with a structurally sound and aesthetically pleasing solution. The wall was backfilled with geotextile fabric, ag. pipe, and 20mm drainage gravel, ensuring proper drainage and longevity.
