A retired couple had purchased their dream acreage property in Tallebudgera Valley, Gold Coast, with the intent to transform their solid but tired old home. The large back garden was underutilized due to its steep slope in two directions, making it difficult to manage and enjoy.
Our Solution
Australian Retaining Walls recommended a Random Sandstone Boulder Retaining Wall to create two flat, manageable garden areas. This choice would not only address the slope but also add a natural, aesthetic appeal to the property.
Construction Process:

Site Preparation:
- Our specialized excavator was used to dig out the embankment and grade the surrounding area appropriately.
- The site was carefully prepared to ensure a stable foundation for the wall.

Wall Construction:
- Base Layer: The largest boulders were selected for the base layer to provide a solid foundation.
- Drainage Installation: Drainage gravel, geotextile fabric, and an ag. pipe were placed behind the wall to ensure proper water management and prevent erosion.
- Building Up: The wall was built up layer by layer, carefully placing each boulder to ensure stability and aesthetic appeal.
- Final Grading: Once the wall was complete, the final grading of the soil was performed to create the desired flat areas.
Outcome
The new Random Sandstone Boulder Retaining Wall successfully transformed the sloping garden into two flat, usable areas. The couple was particularly pleased with the outcome, enjoying the enhanced functionality and beauty of their garden.
