Client Challenge
The property owner in Mudgeeraba, Gold Coast needed to replace old hardwood sleeper retaining walls that had served their purpose for around 30 years. The client was keen to avoid using timber again, opting for a more durable and long-lasting material. The site posed specific challenges, particularly down the side of the garage where space was extremely tight, necessitating a clever and compact solution without the use of machinery.
Our Solution
To meet the client’s needs, we built the new retaining walls using concrete sleepers where space was limited, such as down the side of the garage, and WindsorStone interlocking blocks in the backyard where there was more room. Both materials provided a robust and visually appealing alternative to timber. The entire construction was done by hand due to the restricted access, demonstrating our ability to adapt our methods to challenging environments while ensuring high-quality results.
Outcome
The new concrete retaining walls effectively replaced the old timber walls, providing enhanced stability and a modern look that will stand the test of time. The use of concrete sleepers in the narrow side areas and WindsorStone blocks in the backyard allowed us to maximise the available space without compromising on strength or appearance. The project was completed in one week, with the hand-built approach proving ideal for the tight working conditions. The client was extremely satisfied with the transformation and the durability of the new walls.
