Client Challenge
Our client in Benowa Waters was dealing with an ageing timber retaining wall that was reaching the end of its lifespan. The wall was crucial in supporting the pool, but it posed a significant challenge due to its location beneath a timber deck with limited access. The client was concerned about the structural integrity of the pool area and needed a long-term solution that would avoid costly dismantling of the deck above.
Our Solution
To resolve the issue, we proposed building a mass concrete retaining wall directly in front of the existing timber wall. This method allowed us to strengthen the area without the need to remove the existing deck, which saved time and minimised disruption. We utilised a line pump to deliver approximately 12 tonnes of concrete to form an exceptionally robust wall, ensuring a permanent solution. This approach not only resolved the immediate structural concerns but also provided peace of mind for the future stability of the pool area.
Outcome
The new mass concrete wall was a perfect fit for the challenging conditions of the Benowa Waters site. By carefully pumping in concrete, we avoided the need for heavy machinery, keeping the impact on the existing structures minimal. The result was an incredibly strong wall that will never need to be replaced, providing long-term stability to the poolside area. Additionally, while on-site, we made improvements to the timber deck, raising sagging areas to restore its appearance and functionality. The project was completed within one week, leaving the client delighted with the swift and effective transformation.
