Project Description

After the builder had cut the block for the house pad Australian Retaining Walls were called in for an appraisal and advice on what would be the most suitable wall for the site.

After careful consideration a Heron concrete block wall was chosen for this Coomera, Gold Coast Qld property and Australian Retaining Walls brought in the team to start the job.

After studying the building plans to locate the exact position of the wall, string lines were set up and levels were determined before a machine was brought in to excavate a footing.

Our skilled and experienced operator then dug out a footing, stockpiling all excess material to be re-used later in the job as backfill.

Once excavation is complete the guys at Australian Retaining Walls do a little fine tuning before construction can get underway. On a busy jobsite like this one where numerous tradesmen are at work it is important to communicate with everyone. After a quick conversation with the Renderers and Landscapers, Australian Retaining Walls were given the green light and began construction of our latest Heron concrete block wall in Coomera, Gold Coast Qld.

If you’re wondering why we chose the Heron concrete block system for this project it is because, apart from being a great looking product it is also core filled for extra strength and does not take up a lot of room due to a very small step-back on the block. Some systems stepback 50-60 mm every course you build. The Heron concrete block system only needs 10mm per course to step-back so it is great in an area where space is at a premium.

Once the base has been set in a bed of concrete the remaining blocks are stacked on top to the desired height and the blocks are core-filled. A 65mm drainage pipe is dropped in behind the wall with an out-let created near an existing drain. Geotextile fabric is then pinned to the embankment to stop soil particles escaping through the front of the wall and 20mm drainage gravel covers the pipe and backfills the wall.

Finally, this great looking wall is finished off with a nice thick cap which is glued down for extra security. A great looking Heron concrete block wall, expertly installed by the guys at Australian Retaining Walls.
