Cararra, Diamond Concrete Blocks

Once again Australian Retaining Walls were called to another failing timber retaining wall in need of urgent attention. Along with the failing wall the timber fence was also beyond saving on this Carrara, Gold Coast Qld project. The sheer size of the wall required, in many ways dictated the system that Australian Retaining Walls were eventually to use.

The Diamond Concrete block system was deemed the perfect choice for this wall along with a new Colorbond fence to replace the old timber fence. The Diamond Concrete block is one of the largest blocks available and does not require core filling. With the wall reaching nearly 2 metres in height council approval and architect drawings were required for this project. Demolition got underway and an excavator was brought in to assist. After all excess material was removed the excavator is tasked with digging a large footing for the wall. One of Australian Retaining Walls experienced tradesmen marks out a line for the excavator to dig ensuring the wall remained parallel to the house on the lower level.

Once excavation is complete and the excavator has left, building can begin. The Diamond Concrete blocks are set on a concrete footing at the desired position and our drainage system is put in place. A 100mm drainage pipe is installed behind the wall with an outlet at both ends of the wall. Geotextile fabric is pinned to the back embankment and 20mm drainage gravel is put in place gradually as each course of the Diamond Concrete blocks are built.

Once the Diamond Concrete block wall reaches the desired height and is back filled work on the Colorbond fence gets underway. Flat through the middle, raking up towards the road and down at the other end with the lie of the land, this modern fence is a great addition to both properties.
