Australian Retaining Walls were requested to help find the best option to replace another failing timber wall in Ashmore, Gold Coast Qld. After consulting with the clients Australian Retaining Walls advised that a Vertica concrete block system would be the best option.
The first task facing the crew at Australian Retaining Walls was the removal of the old pine fence and hardwood sleeper wall. The position of the pool posed an obvious problem so great care was taken to ensure nothing (or no-one!) ended up in the pool. Removal of the fence revealed another recently undertaken Australian Retaining Walls project. This time a small hardwood sleeper wall with steel “H” beam posts can be seen above the Vertica concrete block wall.
Demolition complete. The guys begin preparing the ground for construction. Lines are pulled and levels obtained before the Vertica concrete blocks are set into a concrete footing. The next morning when the base blocks are dry, we begin installing our drainage system. This consists of a 65mm perforated pipe placed behind the base blocks, geotextile fabric pinned to the bank and 20mm drainage gravel to cover the pipe and backfill the wall. After the drainage system is installed the rest of the blocks are stacked and core filled to provide the strength required. A cap is glued down on top of the wall to provide the perfect finish to this great looking Vertica concrete block wall.
